Fury Upon the Deep

By Bob Trapani Jr. May 3, 2023

The following was inspired by observing storm seas crashing upon the ledges at Pemaquid Point Light on May 1, 2023…

Under an ashen sky does a vexed and vivacious storm sea run cloaked in the arcane. The deep’s disquieting clout is animated by pretentious draughts of easterly origins. And when the zephyr gallops from this passage with swift might, a raucous sea is thrust fore – heaving and surging with such fury as to stagger even the most unbridled of imaginations.

The chilling roil has a cadence all its own as the din of its caper fills the suffocating air. Yet for all its harrowing chaos and bewilderment upon an unbroken expanse, it is the appointed clash with the indomitable granite underpinnings of the coastline where the storm sea displays its affinity for the dramatic.

Flaunting a countenance green with fury, prodigious waves plunge and rise up with intent to rend asunder all that dares to defy its supremacy. It is at this point that the spectacle proves to be an unfolding paradox of sorts. For as the sea emerges from its menacing depths and readies to thrust its foaming force ashore, the scene seems extraordinarily inert at its apex before suddenly accelerating in a rousing rush and engulfing the shoreline in a thunderous upsurge of water.

This showdown proves irresistible to the testifier, and yet the manifestation of such awe and magnificence evades all measure. How can something so timeless and riveting be scarcely comprehendible? Only the heart knows.

Coastal Maine, Lighthouses

Bob Trapani Jr.

Believing the wonderment of the Maine coast is as much about how it stirs our emotions as it is visually pleasing, Bob endeavors to use his photography – often times laced with scene-inspiring sentiments, to capture the depth of its beauty and charm.
